Odds ‘n’ ends: Chase turns sour after lemonade stand robber steals $17.50
June 18, 2008
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Call it a lemonade standoff.
A girl whose lemonade stand was robbed of $17.50 chased the suspect into a nearby home and called police, who spent nearly an hour trying to get the man to surrender.
“The guy came up and was, like, ‘Give me your money,'” said 12-year-old Dominique Morefield, who was running the lemonade stand with a group of friends. “I was shocked. It was just my immediate reaction to chase after him.”
Dominique dashed after the man who ran into a house, and then she called police. Officers eventually persuaded Steve Tryon, 18, to come outside after 45 minutes and arrested him.
“I didn’t think anyone would come up to a lemonade stand and steal. That’s really low,” 12-year-old Fred Erstine said.

The kids said they would continue to sell lemonade, but with an adult’s supervision.
Police say Conn. man urged snake to ‘get’ officers
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Police in Bridgeport, Conn., say they arrested a man after he ordered his pet to attack two officers. Lucky for them, pythons aren’t very obedient.
Police say 21-year-old Victor Rodriguez was charged with threatening officers and disorderly conduct after Monday’s incident.
Police arrived at Rodriguez’s apartment after receiving a report that he was threatening his girlfriend with the albino python.
Rodriguez allegedly threatened them with the snake and told it to “Get them!”
Rodriguez and his pet were both taken away: Rodriguez to jail on a $10,000 bond, and the reptile to the city’s animal control shelter.
