A 30-year-old Urbana woman was arrested Saturday for the alleged murder of her male roommate who was found dead in a parking lot early that morning.

Urbana police officers responded to a report that a male subject was down in a parking lot and found the man, 43-year-old Aaron D. Patton of Urbana, unresponsive when they arrived, according to a department news release. Medical personnel determined he had died when they reported to the scene at 2006 Vawter St., just west of Phil Road in Urbana. Preliminary autopsy results determined Patton had been stabbed to death.

Police learned Patton shared an apartment with a female at the address and the pair had been involved in a domestic dispute.

The woman, Vera M. Simmons, was eventually arrested on a preliminary charge of first degree murder.
