A small fire occurred in a Champaign Campus Property Management apartment building Wednesday morning.

According to information from the Champaign Fire Department, fire fighters arrived at the 701 Hollycrest Drive at 8:36 a.m. and saw smoke coming from the entrance and stairwell to the building. While they set up, a four-inch hole had burnt through the wall and flames started to shoot out of the hole.

Fire fighters quickly extinguished the flames, and the problems were over by 8:46. The department said the fire was due to smoking materials found in the hallway.

Damage is estimated at $3,000, with a second floor window damaged in the hallway.
