University senior Frank Calabrese has postponed his formal announcement to run for state representative for the 103rd district.

The announcement was scheduled to take place Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. by the University’s Alma Mater at Green and Wright streets, but will now happen Sunday, July 13 at noon at the same location.

Calabrese said he needed to the reschedule the event as his mother had surgery this week.

“I need to spend some time with her,” he said.

Still, Calabrese said the rescheduling could work in his favor as many students will be returning to campus this weekend for Greek Reunion. Calabrese, who is running as a Republican against incumbent Rep. Naomi Jakobsson, D-Urbana, hopes to win a large portion of the student vote.
