Alpha Xi Delta leases fraternity house

By Marie Wilson

Alpha Xi Delta now has a literal space to call its campus home.

The sorority announced Thursday that it reached an agreement with Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity to rent the first floor of the fraternity house at 1004 S. Second St. in Champaign.

“Alpha Xi Delta is extremely grateful to the men of Phi Sigma Kappa for making their home available for our members’ use,” said Deanna Detchemendy, the sorority’s national president.

The sorority will use the house as a meeting space during the 2008-2009 academic year and members will be able to move in during the fall 2009 semester.

Alpha Xi Delta officials are looking for a permanent home for the sorority.

“We will do our best to be good stewards of the property until such time as Phi Sigma Kappa returns to campus,” Detchemendy said.

The sorority is working to make the space its own by ordering a new set of letters and a banner announcing the “Future home of Alpha Xi Delta.”

The first event at the fraternity house location will be the sorority’s bid day Sept. 28. The sorority is in the process of re-starting its chapter at the University after leaving campus in 1995.
