Five men arrested on campus for mob action

By Colleen Vest

University police arrested five men for assaulting a University student on Sunday.

“The arrestees came into Sherman Hall at 4:50 p.m. and began to batter the victim,” said Lt. Roy Acree.

“It may have been the result of an incident in Urbana on (Feb.) 21, so it may have been retaliation.”

The front desk window was broken in Sherman Hall, 909 S. Fifth St., in Champaign. According to the police report, damage was estimated at $500.

“I don’t think any of the ones arrested went to school here,” said Lt. Roy Acree.

It is unclear whether the arrestees lived in Champaign, were visiting or a combination, Acree said.

The five men were arrested for mob action and criminal damage to government-supported property at the 500 block of East Park Street on Sunday afternoon.
