Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is coming to campus Wednesday to promote a proposed bill restricting credit card marketing on college campuses. Giannoulias will be working with student senate vice president-external Vikram Chaudhery to attract signatures for a petition in support of the bill on the quad-side of the Illini Union at 2:15p.m., said Katie Phillips, spokesperson for Giannoulias.

Phillips said the students will be using counter-marketing techniques, like gifts and promotional offers to bring students to the booth.

“It’s kind of like how the credit card companies trick you, but in an activist situation,” she said.

Giannoulias will be on campus for about 30 minutes talking to students, Phillips said. The event was planned to coordinate with student senate elections.
