Illinois Treasure Alexi Giannoulias formed an exploratory committee for a possible United States Senate campaign.

The committee was formed on March 3rd and within 28 days Giannoulias had raised $1.1 million.

“This number represents your choice,” Giannoulias wrote in a letter to his supports.

A week ago the Washington Post reported that political donations have dropped 26 percent from two years ago.

If Giannoulias does run for the Senate, he will be competing for the seat currently held by Senator Roland Burris.
