According to the University system’s Institute of Government and Public Affairs, the employment rate dropped faster this March than it did during the worst point of the 2001-2003 recession.
At the end of March there were 5.744 million people employed in Illinois, as compared to the 5.789 million who were employed in November of 2003, which is regarded as the lowest point of the earlier recession. Illinois lost 39,600 jobs in March. In February 36,300 jobs were lost.
