The streets of Champaign-Urbana are littered with trash and debris after Unofficial St. Patrick’s day activities Friday, March 5.
Tom Schuh, operations manager for the Champaign public works department, said the city of Champaign will have street sweepers cleaning up the streets in Champaign, but not the sidewalks. He said they began the process today and it will continue for the next few days until the streets are clean.
Jill Guth, director of development for JSM Management, said they implemented a special crew to clean up some of JSM’s larger properties beginning early Saturday, March 6 after Unofficial.
“The majority of it was done on Saturday morning,” Guth said.
She said the cleaning will continue today in some of their larger properties including Green Street Towers, 616 E. Green st., Johnstowne Apartments, 508 E. John St. and Boardwalk Apartments, 505 E. Healey st., all in Champaign.

Les Stratton, supervisor of operations for the Urbana public works department, said Urbana is not making any large efforts to clean up after Unofficial because most activity Friday occurred on the Champaign side of campus.
“At this point, we aren’t doing anything special other than running a street sweep in a few areas,” Stratton said.
Stratton added other than bars on Goodwin Ave., Urbana did not have a lot of participation on Unofficial.
