Champaign City Council will convene Tuesday night to discuss a number of resolutions, including one about the Kiwane Carrington settlement.
Kiwane Carrington was a fifteen old boy who was killed last October in an accident involving a Champaign police officer.
Carrington’s death led to uproar from the Champaign public concerning the police department’s use of force.
The State Attorney ruled that the fatal shooting was an accident but Daniel Norbitz, the police officer involved in the shooting, was given a thirty day suspension earlier this year.
Following the accident, a Chicago lawyer James Montgomery Jr. filed a lawsuit with the Champaign Circuit Court, for Kenesha Williams, Carrington’s sister and administrator of his estate.

The suit accused Norbitz of being negligent.
City attorney Fred Stavins said they have come to a settlement agreement of $470,000.
Council member Michael LaDue disputed the idea of racial profiling being involved in the shooting, and said that it was an accident.
“It was a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances that came together to produce tragedy,” said LaDue.
Stavins said that he anticipates some kind of closure will come with the end of the settlement.
“Nothing is going to bring this young man back but this is society’s way of dealing with these matters,” he said.
Stavins also said that he doesn’t know that any amount of money could be considered closure for a loss in a family.
“The family will continue to feel a loss their entire life, the community we hope can come together and move forward from this,” he said
Council Member Marci Dodds, district 4, said the settlement means as much for the city as it does for the family.
