The Students for Environmental Concerns and the Office of Sustainability are celebrating 2010 Illinois Sustainability Week, October 25-29 in effort to reduce the university’s carbon foot print. Below is a list of scheduled events open to everyone on campus:
Monday, October 25
Activites and Recreation Center Tour: 10-11 A.M.
Features sustainability projects implemented after the completion of the renovation
Campus Garden Walk: 12-1 P.M.

Ikenberry Commons Tour: 2-3 P.M.

Tuesday, October 26
Sustainable Student Farm Tour: 10-11 A.M.
There will be a shuttle pickup and drop off at ISR located between Green Street and Illinois Street on the West side of the building (parking lot D-8).
North Campus/Boneyard Creek Walk: 12-1 P.M.
Features Beckman Institute, Upwells Sundial, Kenney Gym, Grainger Library, Bardeen Quad, Boneyard Creek, and the Green Street Walkway. Meet at the Beckman Institute Iron Gate entrance, corner of Clark and Wright streets.
“Green is the Color of Justice” Environmental Justice Panel Luncheon: 12-1 P.M.
At La Casa Cultural Latina, 1203 W. Nevada Street. Lunch will be provided, no RSVP necessary.
Common Ground Food Co-op Cooking Class: 2-3 P.M.
Discusses how to cook with sustainability and budgetary concerns in mind at ARC Instructional Kitchen, 201 E. Peabody, Room 1186.
Presentations by Ty Newell and Brian Deal: 7-8 P.M.
Newell, Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering, will be discussing the “Equinox House”, Solar Powered Living and Transportation, How and How Much? Deal, Associate Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, will be discussing “Planning for Energy and Climate Changes” at 100 Gregory Hall, 810 S. Wright St.
Wednesday, October 27
“FUNstainability: a joyride into the not-so-distant future:” 10-11 A.M.
Interactive talk/pane hosted by Electric Vehicles Club on the Quad.
Sustainability Fair on the Quad at Anniversary Plaza: 11 A.M. to 3 P.M.
Thursday, October 28
Waste Transfer Station Tour: 10-11 A.M.
Will show how the recyclables are sorted, baled and stored until shipped out. Meet in the lobby of the Waste Transfer facility, 10 E. St. Mary’s Road.
“New within the Old” tour of the Renovated Athletics Facilities: 12-1 P.M.
Features the ARC, Armory, Irwin Academic Center, Assembly Hall, and Stadium. Meet at the main entrance of the ARC, 201 E. Peabody.
“How and Why to become more Environmentally Active:” 4-5 P.M.
