Champaign man injured in shooting

A 33-year-old male was shot at the 400 block of East Columbia Avenue in Champaign early Tuesday morning.

According to Champaign Police, officers responded to reports of gunshots at 1:58 a.m. and, while on the way to the scene, discovered that the gunshot victim had driven himself to Carle Hospital.

At the hospital, officers met with the victim, who reported that he was shot while sitting in a car in his friend’s driveway with a female passenger. The victim said a vehicle pulled up directly behind them on the street. He heard a “pop” a short time later, and the driver’s side window had broken.

The victim reported that he then heard additional gunshots. The female passenger left the vehicle, and the victim drove himself to the hospital after he realized he had been shot. His injuries were not life threatening, and the passenger was not injured.

Champaign Police are investigating this crime and are seeking information from the public. You can call them to leave a tip at 217-351-4545 or at their anonymous tip line, 217-373-8477.
