The Champaign-Urbana Chapter of the Muslim American Society, or MAS-UC, will host “Black American Heritage: An Inspiring Movement for Social Justice,” a lecture event on Thursday evening.
Ahmed A. Taha, president of MAS-UC, said the lecture “will shed light on how the non-violent Black American movement advocated the essential human rights of oppressed Black Americans to live as honorable humans and faithful U.S citizens.”
Taha added the lecture will also feature how current social justice movements be inspired by the heritage of Black Americans.
Mahdi Bray, executive director of the Muslim American Society’s Freedom Foundation, will be speaking at the event, which also will include a short movie screening and musical performance.
The event is sponsored by Islamic Relief and Student Organization Resource Fee. It is also co-sponsored by Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort, Champaign-Urbana Citizens for Peace and Justice, Citizens with Conviction, Citizens with Conviction, and Central Illinois Mosque and Islamic Center Outreach Committee.
