A man who attempted to sexually assault a woman at Allen Hall last April has been sentenced to 60 years in prison, according to the Champaign County Circuit Clerk.

Gregory Hayes, 33, took the female’s keycard as she entered the building and pulled her back outside, according to the police report. A male resident of Allen Hall heard screaming and came downstairs, scaring Hayes away. The male student then called police.

Hayes was located using video footage from an Allen Hall security camera and was charged with attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse on April 8.

A Champaign County jury in late October found Hayes guilty of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
