An investigation by the University has found no evidence that the computer attacks against the website that served to promote the referendum vote in Crimea, referendum2014.ru, came from the University’s campus computer network.

“After comparing the referendum2014.ru logs against the campus logs we found no evidence of the campus computer network being involved in an attack,” campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler said in an email.

CITES Security immediately began investigating the claims after they came to the University’s attention. CITES reached out to the owners of the website and asked for a copy of their logs to verify the claim, Kaler said.

The organizers described the attacks as DDoS, or “distributed denial of service” attack.
