Construction starts on Krannert Center

By Daily Illini Staff Report

The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is undergoing a series of repairs to the north side of the building.

Once the north side is complete, there will be a break before repairs begin on the south side of the center’s Playhouse and amphitheater during the summer of 2015, according to a press release. The renovations are scheduled to be completed in August 2015 before the fall semester begins.

During the process, the Krannert Center will undergo several repairs including re-flashing, the installation of new caps, the addition of insulation and the re-pouring of concrete between the building’s exterior brick wall and interior walls. LED lightbulbs will also be added to the center’s studio and playhouse.

The facade will not be changed as a result of these repairs. This is the first time the Krannert Center has gone through a project of this size. The building is 45 years old.

The first phase of the project will cost around $3 million, but the project in total will cost $8-9 million.
