Crime Alert issued for robbery near Everitt Laboratory

A robbery was reported early Saturday morning in the 200 block of South Wright Street in Urbana.

According to a Crime Alert, the victim was at the MTD bus stop west of Everitt Laboratory at around 3:30 a.m. The offender, who said his name was Robert, approached the victim and tried to talk to her. He then shoved the victim, grabbed her purse and ran away.

The victim chased after the offender, whom she described to be a 5-foot-7, thin, white 30-year-old male. He fell near the Vivarium Building, 606 E. Healey St., Champaign, and dropped the victim’s purse. The victim kicked the man in the face, according to the alert.

The offender was last seen running northbound. He was wearing dark pants, brown shoes and a black coat with the hood up, and he may have a facial injury.

The University Police Department is working to identify and arrest the offender. Witnesses or those with more information should contact University police at 333-1216 or Crime Stoppers at 373-8477.
