University student Tatyana McFadden wins third Boston Marathon Title

Tatyana McFadden won the women’s wheelchair race of the Boston Marathon on Monday morning. McFadden’s time was 1 hour, 52:54 minutes, according to the 2015 Boston Marathon’s website . She bested second place Wakako Tscuchida of Japan by just 0.66 of a second.

McFadden was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1989 with a hole in her spine causing paralyzation below the waist called spina bifida. She was adopted from a Russian orphanage at age six by Debbie McFadden, commissioner of disabilities for the U.S. Health Department.

McFadden’s first marathon win came in Chicago in 2009. She won the Chicago Marathon again in 2014 as well as the Boston Marathon.
