UPDATE: Illini-Alert issued for 600 block of White Street

UPDATE: 11:15 p.m. — According to a press release from John Kroll, Champaign Fire Department fire marshal, fire crews responded to a call about a fire at 604 E. White St. at 8:18 p.m.

Upon arrival, crews noticed “heavy fire” from the second story extending to the third story, on the northeast side of the 24-unit apartment building.

The report stated no residents or members of the fire department were injured but the cause of the fire is still under investigation

An Illini alert was issued around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday to inform the campus community about a fire at 604 E. White St., Champaign.

The alert warned in the area to leave immediately and all other members of the community to avoid the area.

The Champaign Fire Department could not provide comment as firefighters at were at the scene tending to the situation at press time.

A second alert was issued nearly ten minutes later informing community members the emergency ended and it is safe resume normal activities.
