Ammons launches petition against budget cuts

State representative Carol Ammons launched a community-wide petition in response to Gov. Bruce Rauner’s proposal to cut funding to the University.
Ammons issued a press release Monday discussing her petition to urge the General Assembly to decline Rauner’s proposal.
“Our public universities and colleges are vital to the prosperity of our community and state,” Ammons said in a press release. “They support our economy, employ thousands of residents and help keep talented students living in Illinois.”
Rauner proposed to cut funding earlier this year. If the proposal goes through, funding for public universities will be cut more than 30 percent, which would cut $209 million from the University.
