A Peoria Charter bus became engulfed in flames as it carried high school students from Champaign while en route to Chicago on Thursday evening.
The bus driver said that the low pressure light had appeared on the dashboard approximately 50 miles into the drive towards the city. Once the bus had pulled over on I-57, the driver noted smoke was coming out of the engine.
He was able to evacuate the bus full of high schoolers before it caught on fire. The students and the bus driver escaped the scene with no reported injuries.
The Peoria Charter Coach company released a statement that they had sent a new bus to help the students finish their trip to Chicago.
