Camargo named interim dean of LAS
October 31, 2016
An associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will serve as interim dean of LAS following Barbara Wilson’s promotion to serve as the vice president of the University system.
Martin Camargo’s appointment starts Tuesday and is pending approval from the Board of Trustees. Camargo is an associate dean for humanities and interdisciplinary programs. He holds a tenured position in English and appointments as a professor of classics and medieval studies.
Interim Provost Ed Feser said an internal search is underway for a permanent dean and he hopes to have a new dean in place by the end of November.
Wilson served as the dean of LAS until 2015 when she took over as interim chancellor after the resignation of Phyllis Wise. She retained her title as dean, and Executive Associate Dean Brian Ross led the department.
He began serving as interim dean in October when Wilson was promoted to vice president and vice president for academic affairs. Ross retired from the University on Oct. 21.
