Students inconvenienced by Green Street construction
August 29, 2017
Despite an original projected completion date for move-in day, construction continues in various spots on campus as students navigate their first day of classes.
Michael Brower, senior in Media, acknowledged one negative effect of the construction.
“(The construction) definitely messes up the transportation,” Brower said.
Conor Lipinski, junior in LAS, said the construction is not a huge deal for him, but he believes it should’ve been completed this summer.
“They’re finally sorting (the construction) out, which is fine,” Lipinski said. “Just kind of a pain, because it’s still going on while we’re here.”

The Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) construction project in front of the Illini Union is scheduled to be complete by Sept. 1, following a schedule delay over the summer. This will open up Green Street in front of the building.
Jasmine Thawesee, junior in Engineering, said she spends a lot of time on the Engineering Quad so she doesn’t notice the construction as much, yet is still inconvenienced by it.
“(The construction) is annoying when you’re trying to get to the Union, because the Union is basically like the entrance to get to the South Quad,” Thawesee said. “It’s annoying to have to go around.”
