May 30, 2018
University President Timothy Killeen has announced Avijit Ghosh as the UI system’s permanent vice president and chief financial officer. Ghosh was previously the system’s interim CFO and will officially start the position on June 1, pending approval by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on July 19.
Ghosh previously joined the University in 2001 as dean of the College of Business and a professor of business administration. Before that, he served as the University’s vice president for technology and economic development from 2008 until 2011.
“Avijit has seen our operations from nearly every angle and knows our strengths, our opportunities and the power of our academic and research missions,” Killeen said in a press release.
As the UI system’s CFO, Ghosh is responsible for all three universities’ financial functions, overseeing costs, revenues, capital expenditures, investments and debt. He will also help implement an annual budget that has grown to more than $6.5 billion across the three universities.
“The U of I System has weathered recent financial challenges and emerged on firm financial footing, with record enrollment, a sense of optimism and a forward-looking vision for tomorrow,” Ghosh said in a press release.
