C-SPAN bus visits CU in partnership with Comcast

By The Daily Illini Staff Report

The C-SPAN bus will visit Champaign-Urbana as a part of their “50 Capitals Tour” to share political and educational resources with the community.

The event will take place Monday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 1001 S. Wright St. in Champaign.

Marketing representative Joel Bacon said in an email, he hopes students get a better understanding of C-SPAN and how they can use their video resources. Employees will be giving away pocket constitutions and other C-SPAN themed items at the event, he said.

“We are in the middle of our ’50 Capitals Tour’ and visiting cities along the way,” he said. “One of the reasons we’re specifically going to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is because one of our co-CEOs, Rob Kennedy, is a graduate of the school.”

C-SPAN started their “50 Capitals Tour” in September 2017, when they visit every U.S. state capital. The tour will end in November and they will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the C-SPAN bus program.

Throughout the tour, the bus has allowed visitors to interview election officials and allowed visitors to share their opinions about the 2018 midterm elections.

Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with the C-SPAN bus crew and onboard interactive tools to learn more about the television network at the event.

“We want University students, faculty and the people of Urbana-Champaign to understand that C-SPAN is a public service of the Cable and Satellite industry, locally Comcast, and has incredible amounts of free resources available about the federal government in D.C. over the course of the last 40 years.”
