Temporary road closures to reroute bus lines

New construction on 4th and Peabody causes traffic to build up and alternate bus routes on October 23, 2018.

A temporary road closure will impact the 22 Illini bus routes until Friday.

Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District southbound buses on the 22 Illini line will avoid Goodwin Avenue in response to road repairs between Main and Stoughton streets, according to the MTD website.

The website also said turning will be restricted at the intersection at Fourth Street and Peabody Drive due to a construction project, forcing a reroute around the intersection for both north and south-bound buses on the Illini 22 and 220 lines, effective until Nov. 2.

MTD planner Jay Rank said he had to reroute the 14 Navy, 9A and 9B Brown, and 22 and 220 Illini lines because the buses cannot make turning movements at the intersection.

“There’s a football game Nov. 3, so the construction needed to be done before then,” Rank said. “That’s why they’re getting it done now, in this two-week window.”
