Urbana assesses pavements to improve road conditions
October 1, 2019
In order to develop a multiyear paving and preservation plan, the city of Urbana has contracted with Applied Pavement Technology, Inc. to assess the pavement conditions across the city.
Assessments of pavement started Thursday and will continue until Friday, according to a press release. An APTech van with specialized technology will be traveling the streets of Urbana collecting information.
The data collected will be used to identify which streets are the most in need of repairs.
“Everyday traffic and weather have a significant impact on our roads; identifying and measuring pavement conditions now will help us avoid bigger issues on our roadway network down the line,” said Craig Shonkwiler, Interim City Engineer, in the press release. “The project with APTech will help us make data-informed decisions when planning the city’s roadway maintenance.”
