A racial slur was found written in a bathroom stall in the Armory, 505 E. Armory Ave., according to the University Police Department police report released Friday.

According to the report, the slur was written in pencil on the wall of the stall and was reported by a student on Thursday. It is unknown when the slur was written but it was quickly removed when found.

Patrick Wade, communications director for the University Police Department, said there is no more additional information available, however University Police Chief Craig Stone offered the following statement:

“The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating an incident in which a slur for African-Americans was written in pencil on a bathroom stall. We support our campus community members and the university’s strategic vision to be a leader in advancing diversity and equity and in creating a welcoming environment where all people can be successful. We must come together to make it clear to all that this behavior is not acceptable. The University Police Department will continue to provide a highly-visible presence to maintain the safety of our campus community.”
