Champaign

An arrest was made on the charge of retail theft at Walmart, 2610 N. Prospect Ave., around 6 p.m. Sunday. According to the report, the suspect was caught by loss prevention trying to leave the store with three cosmetic items without making payment. 

Theft and extortion was reported in the 800 block of North Country Fair Drive, around 10 a.m. Sunday. According to the report, the victim’s former business partner attempted to extort $100,000 from the victim via email.

Armed robbery was reported in the intersection of Oak Street and East Armory Avenue, around 1 a.m. Sunday. According to the report, the victim was approached by two unknown offenders, one of whom held the victim’s arms while the other offender reportedly held the victim at gunpoint and took his cellphone and wallet. 

University

An arrest was made on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol in the intersection of Sixth Street and Armory Avenue, around 6 a.m. Saturday. According to the report, a witness called police to report the suspect’s vehicle parked on the sidewalk with the suspect unconscious in the driver’s seat.

Urbana

An arrest was made on the charge of aggravated battery at Carle Hospital, 602 W. University Ave., around 6 a.m. Sunday. According to the report, after the intoxicated suspect was taken to the hospital, he battered the victim, a hospital nurse, and was taken to jail.

Residential burglary was reported in the 1000 block of Anderson Street, around 8 p.m. Saturday. According to the report, an unknown offender entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked window. The victim came home and the offender fled before taking anything from the residence.

An arrest was made on the charges of delivery of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, driving under a suspended license and possession of an in-state warrant at Walgreens, 302 E. University Ave., around 5 p.m. Saturday. According to the report, the suspect was initially pulled over by police for operating a vehicle on a public roadway with a suspended license. The officers discovered that the suspect had two valid Champaign County warrants for his arrest. The officers began searching the suspect for contraband, leading the suspect to resist and give one officer a minor injury. Officers eventually found a large amount of a controlled substance and a digital scale, and the suspect was transported to jail.
