Danville prison employee tests positive for coronavirus

An employee at the Danville Correctional Center has tested positive for COVID-19 according to a statement released by the Illinois Department of Corrections on Tuesday. There are no confirmed cases among the prison’s 1,700 inmates.

Due to its confirmed case, Danville Correctional Center has been placed on lockdown, preventing visitors from coming in or out of the facility. The only permitted movement within the prison is for medical care.

More than 200 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Vermilion County, with 5 people testing positive for the disease.

Across the state of Illinois, 41 IDOC employees have tested positive for COVID-19 in addition to the 101 inmates from 12 different facilities.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued an executive order that suspends all admissions to the IDOC from Illinois county jails. The director of IDOC and county sheriffs will work together with other partners in the criminal justice system to discuss possible exceptions to this order.
