Japan House, UIPD seek information about vandalism incident

The Japan House, located in the University’s Arboretum, has suffered vandalism damages regarding shattered glass from a rock on May 31.

The Japan House is seeking assistance from the public for any information regarding an act of vandalism that occurred on May 31 when a rock was thrown at a sliding glass door, shattering it.
“It is with a sad heart that we ask for the community’s assistance in submitting information about an act of vandalism at Japan House, which resulted in a broken glass sliding door,” the Japan House said in a Facebook post.
At around 5 p.m. on May 31, staff at the Japan House heard a crash “and found a sliding glass door broken with a rock laying beside it,” according to a Facebook post by the University of Illinois Police Department. The cost to repair the glass door is estimated to be around $1,500.
After reviewing security footage, UIPD identified two persons of interest who were near the Japan House when the damage occurred.
“We would be interested in speaking with them to resolve this matter,” UIPD said in the Facebook post.
