An informational Illini-Alert was released at 7:55 a.m. informing of a significant network service interruption on campus today.
In a Massmail from Chief Information Officer Mairéad Martin, “Many university computers are experiencing an issue that may result in desktops or laptops being unresponsive” this morning.
The issue is caused by the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, which released a misconfigured/corrupted security update to customers. The update inadvertently led to outages on Windows computers and resulted in disruptions worldwide.

“The campus network is not affected by this issue,” Martin said. “Information about how to troubleshoot the issue can be found on the Technology Services KnowledgeBase.”
Because the workaround is difficult, Martin recommended users facing issues contact the Technology Services Help Desk or their local college unit for assistance.
