Susuru Ramen, located on the 600 block of Green Street, opened its doors on Wednesday. The restaurant’s menu primarily offers ramen, bento boxes and sushi.
Joy Ruan, the owner of Susuru Ramen, said she and her husband opened the business to show a different style of ramen with fresh broth cooked for seven hours every day.
Ruan owns several other restaurants in the Campustown area, including a franchise of Kung Fu Tea, Szechuan Taste, Pokelab and bb.q Chicken in Urbana. Ruan says a new location for Kung Fu Tea is coming soon in Urbana.
When operating a restaurant, convenience and pricing are key considerations for college students. On campus, the atmosphere is also important, Ruan said.
Susuru Ramen has primarily advertised through Bankier Apartments, the leasing company that owns the property. However, Ruan notes they plan to advertise with registered student organizations and expand the restaurant’s dining options from dine-in and carry-out to also include delivery.

“The center (of campus) is Green Street,” Ruan said. “If you open a restaurant on Green and Six, it’s a good location.”
Susuru Ramen is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the week.
