The University is participating in the Abbott and Big Ten Conference’s “We Give Blood” contest for the second year. Out of 18 competing schools, Illinois is in 6th place behind the University of Iowa as of Monday.
From Sept. 13-19, Illinois will go head-to-head against Indiana University in the weekly one-up challenge. The school that donates the most blood in the lead-up to Saturday’s football game against the Hoosiers will win the weekly challenge.
With 714 donors, the University could still move up the ranks in the contest. Abbott, a healthcare technology company, will award the winner of the blood drive competition $1 million in funding for student and community health.
Students, faculty, fans, staff and alumni can all donate blood in support of Illinois by submitting proof of their donation to the Big Ten website. Everyone who shows up to donate will have the chance to win tickets to an upcoming game, including field access and autographed merchandise.
ImpactLife is hosting three blood drives on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Illini Union to support the University’s efforts in the competition.
