The Urbana Fire Department responded to a fire at LAR on Friday afternoon.
Tracy Cunningham, the University’s assistant director of Residential Life, confirmed to The Daily Illini there were no injuries and that the fire was contained.
An Illini-Alert sent at 2:56 p.m. told those at or near the location to leave immediately. Another, sent at 3:33 p.m., wrote that emergency services remained on scene. At 4:10 p.m., public safety officials sent another Illini-Alert, which said the emergency ended and it was safe to resume regular activities.
During the emergency response, residential staff directed LAR residents to go to nearby Allen Hall or elsewhere on campus and said they would send an email when the building is safe to reenter, according to reporters on scene.
The fire at LAR was the second reported on-campus fire of the day, with the first occurring at 104 S. Mathews Ave. in Urbana earlier Friday.
