Urbana police investigate two shootings over the weekend

April 1 Shooting:
On April 1 at 2:25 a.m., Urbana police officers responded to a home invasion and shooting at the 700 block of Colorado.
“According to reports, an unknown male offender kicked in the door to a residence and shot one person inside,” the Urbana press release said. “Upon arrival, officers found a 27-year-old male from Urbana who had been shot four times in the leg and once in the chest.”
Medical assistance was immediately provided to the victim who is expected to live.
“The victim, who was visiting a friend at the time of the shooting, was inside an apartment when the incident occurred,” the press release said.

The offender fled in a dark sedan. Police believe the incident was not a “random act.”
The investigation is ongoing.
April 2 Shooting:
On April 2 at 12:05 p.m., Urbana police responded to another shooting at a convenience store near 1900 S. Philo. The incident involved two 17-year-old juveniles and a 22-year-old male.
One of the juveniles shot the 22-year-old ten times, “hitting him four times in the arm, leg, and buttock,” according to the Urbana Police Department.
The incident happened outside the convenience store when the older man punched one of the juveniles.
The police surrounded the offender’s home after identifying him as the shooter. With a court approved search warrant, the police then searched the home of the offender.
According to the press release, the offender was detained and transported to “Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center and is currently awaiting further court proceedings.”
The Urbana police are continuing their investigation with both cases. They are asking citizens with any information that might be related to the cases, including photo and video footage, to contact them at 217-384-2320.
