Beginning at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, main roads will close in downtown Champaign to accommodate the annual Labor Day Parade. The parade itself will start at 10 a.m.
The Champaign chapter of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations is organizing the parade. The AFL-CIO sent out a press release further detailing the event.
According to the press release, the roads that are closed include:
- Neil Street between University Avenue and Columbia Street
- Main Street between Neil and Chestnut streets
- Washington Street between Neil and Walnut streets
- Chester Street between Market and Neil streets
- Walnut Street between Washington Street and University Avenue
- Additionally, Hill Street between Neil Street and the entrance to the Hill Street Parking Deck
The release also said that all vehicles within the area must be relocated before 9:15 a.m. There will be alternative free parking and detour routes through State Street, Randolph Street and University Avenue.
According to the C-U Fair and Festival guide, the parade will start at the corner of North Chestnut Street and East Main Street. Following the parade, there will be a picnic at West Side Park.
