Champaign Unit 4 School District and the Urbana School District, among other local districts in Vermillion County, are set to receive over $4 million in funding.
The fiscal year 2025 budget invested $350 million in new funding for student success through the 2017 Illinois Senate Democrat-backed evidence-based funding formula.
“Our commitment to using the evidence-based funding formula ensures the schools in our district receive the resources they need to provide every student with the education they deserve,” said Sen. Paul Faraci, D-I.L., in a press release obtained by The Daily Illini.
The evidence-based funding formula works to make school funding more equitable by calculating the needs of individual school districts and basing its state revenue on those needs. The formula applies several different factors, including a district’s total enrollment, poverty rate and number of special education or English language learners.
“By prioritizing data-driven approaches, we’re taking a significant step forward in providing equitable, high-quality education to every child in our community,” Faraci said.
