Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Alexi Giannoulias announced Sunday that library districts throughout the 52nd Senate District of Illinois, including Champaign, will receive $330,143 in grants.
“Libraries throughout the state must have the resources and financial support they need to provide high-quality materials and programming to Illinois residents,” Giannoulias said in a press release obtained by The Daily Illini.
The grants, which include annual per capita funds and one-time technology grants, aim to bolster library services and resources. Local libraries in Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Oakwood, Rantoul and Westville will all receive funding to improve their offerings and infrastructure.
The purpose of these grants is to help libraries with their operational needs, such as acquiring new materials and improving facilities. Some grants will also support technology upgrades, expansion of digital resources, improving internet accessibility and ensuring ADA compliance.
Leaders like State Senator Paul Faraci and State Representative Carol Ammons have all expressed their enthusiasm in investing in libraries, believing it to be an investment in the enrichment of the community.
