In a general press release, the City of Urbana announced that business offices at City Hall, the Public Works Department, the Landscape Recycling Center and the Cohen Building will all be closed on Monday “as a precaution due to the current dangerous weather conditions.”
However, the City reassured residents that all essential services, including the police, fire and public works departments, will remain in operation.
The City Clerk’s office closed on Monday as well, forcing the City Council to reschedule its regular meeting.
The City of Champaign also released a general press notice acknowledging the closing of offices and city facilities on Monday “for the safety of public visitors and City of Champaign employees.” The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is closing for the same reason, “prioritizing safety amid icy road conditions.”

Parkland College in Champaign issued a campuswide shutdown on Monday due to inclement weather, with access roads to campus being closed for the day. Similarly, the Urbana School District 116 shifted to e-learning for Monday, with “no in-person instruction at the school buildings.” The district’s press release attributes this shift to dangerous road conditions due to wind gusts and reduced visibility from “blowing and drifting snow,” making it difficult for the morning commute.
The Champaign Public Library initially closed only on Sunday but told The Daily Illini in an email it has since extended the closure through Monday “due to weather.” The Urbana Free Library is also closed.
