UPDATE — Wednesday, 4:15 p.m.
The Champaign Police Department released a statement which stated that officers were dispatched at 11:26 a.m. following a report of the shooting. At the scene, they found a 15-year-old with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Immediately, officers gave medical assistance in partnership with the Champaign Fire Department until the victim was safe for transport to a local hospital. Currently, the victim is in stable condition and remains hospitalized, according to the statement.
Preliminary investigation suggests the scene of the shooting was near the intersection of Winston Drive and Summit Ridge Road, about one block northeast of Parkland College’s Mattis Avenue facilities. The victim was walking nearby when an unknown subject or subjects shot at him. The victim and the assailants fled the area.
“The reason for the gunfire remains unknown at this time, but investigators are pursuing every lead and seeking assistance from the community to determine what led to this incident and who is responsible,” CPD wrote in its statement.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
CPD encourages any witnesses, residents or businesses in the nearby area with exterior camera systems to notify the department. Champaign County Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards for tips leading to an arrest.
UPDATE — Wednesday, 1:48 p.m.
Parkland’s extended campus on Mattis Avenue has been given the all clear, and the lockdown was lifted, according to a Facebook post by the school. Afternoon classes at Parkland’s campus on Mattis Avenue remain cancelled, the post stated. Evening classes that begin at 5 p.m. or later will proceed as scheduled. The offices at the extended campus are now open.
Parkland clarified that there was no active shooter on the main campus, WCIA reports, but added that three suspects are now believed to be involved in the “reported shooting.” Police have not confirmed that a shooting was the cause of the lockdown.
UPDATE — Wednesday, 12:39 p.m.
Parkland’s campus on Mattis Avenue is on lockdown after a “reported shooting” nearby Wednesday morning.
The Parkland College Police Department sent an emergency alert to campus community members, WCIA reported. The incident occurred at the corner of Mattis Avenue and Parkland Way in Champaign, and two male suspects are still at large, according to the alert.
The men were described as wearing black clothing and traveling on foot.
Currently, Parkland on Mattis is on lockdown until further notice.
