A Campus Security Authority informed the University of Illinois Police Department that a student was sexually assaulted at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday morning in an unspecified residence hall.
The incident on Tuesday was the latest of nine sexual-based crimes reported to the UIPD this semester, according to the UIPD crime log and Campus Safety Notices.
“We generally do not include specific details about exact locations or times to avoid releasing information that could lead to the identification of a survivor,” read the Campus Safety Notice sent to campus community members via email Wednesday morning.
UIPD also noted the offender and victim met through a dating app.
This notice came on the last day that University students had to complete an online Sex-Based Harassment and Discrimination Training course before being given a hold on their class registration.

These trainings, along with Campus Safety Notices, are methods the University says are intended to deter sexual misconduct.
“We are sending this message to heighten your awareness, to encourage student safety, and to aid in the prevention of similar crimes,” read the notice.
