An alleged home invader was pronounced dead at 5:43 a.m. on Sunday, which occurred at the 1200 block of Harrington Drive in Champaign, Illinois.
Champaign Police were dispatched at 4:09 a.m. on Sunday for a report of a home invasion with gunfire.
“On-scene, officers located two injured men and immediately began to administer emergency aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department,” a press release from the Champaign Police Department said.
The suspect was 21-year-old Emmanuel Becerril-Perez from Urbana. He had multiple gunshot wounds and was engaged in a physical confrontation with the homeowner.
The resident of the home had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm.

The investigation indicates that the homeowner fired multiple shots and wounded Becerril-Perez during the altercation, according to a press release from Champaign County Coroner Stephen Thuney.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. At the moment, no arrests have been made. The CPD and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office are currently investigating the death of Becerril-Perez.
