The UIPD sent a campuswide safety notice informing the community of a sexual assault that occurred early this morning at a fraternity.
According to the report, the offender gave the victim a controlled substance before the assault.
“We are sending this message to heighten your awareness, to encourage student safety and to aid in the prevention of similar crimes,” the UIPD said in a statement.
The email also included a list of support resources for survivors and information on reporting misconduct and sexual assault incidents.
“We have a collective responsibility to support people who have experienced sexual assault and, if we are able, to get involved in sexual assault prevention,” the statement said. “Visit wecare.illinois.edu for more information.”

The notice was released per the Clery Act, a federal law that requires colleges and universities to report crimes that occur on campus, including sexual violence, as a way to improve student safety.
“For 24/7 resources, visit Rape Advocacy, Counseling, and Education Services (RACES), or call the 24-hour hotline at 217-384-4444,” the statement said. “You can also visit Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN).”
