Champaign

Homicide was reported on the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive around 4 p.m. on Saturday. According to the report, police responded to a report of shots fired and found the victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers attempted first aid before medical personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

Homicide was reported on the 2000 block of West Bradley Avenue around midnight on Sunday. According to the report, police responded to a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers saw several vehicles and individuals fleeing the scene and found a 20-year-old victim with five gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Armed robbery was reported at 1204 N. Market St. around midnight on Sunday. According to the report, an unknown offender approached the cash register just before the store’s closing, displayed a handgun and waved it side to side while demanding cash. The offender obtained an undisclosed amount of currency and walked out of the store. No injuries were reported to police.

University

Theft under $500 was reported at the Illini Union overnight Friday or Saturday. According to the report, a University security guard found soap all over the bathroom and reported a soap dispenser stolen. The soap dispenser has an estimated value of $50. 

Extortion was reported at Scott Residence Hall around 4 p.m. on Friday. According to the report, a University student was contacted anonymously through social media. The unknown messenger threatened to send sexually explicit images of the student to friends and family unless they were paid $2,000. The student paid the messenger and contacted police when they demanded more money.

Urbana

Burglary was reported at Bangkok Thai on 1100 block of Cunningham Avenue around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. According to the report, three unknown offenders entered the restaurant and stole an ATM along with cash.
