University

An arrest was made on the charges of armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, possession of a revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification card and driving with a suspended license around 5 p.m. on Monday. According to the report, police initially stopped the suspect’s vehicle because a license plate check showed that his driver’s license was suspended. After smelling a strong odor of cannabis, police searched the vehicle and found a backpack in the backseat containing about 154 grams of cannabis and a loaded handgun. Police also found materials typically used to package drugs for sale.

Urbana

An arrest was made on the charges of aggravated battery and improper lane usage around noon on Monday. According to the report, the suspect argued with an employee, the victim, at an auto repair shop. The suspect pushed over two computers and began pushing and kicking the victim in the parking lot, where a second employee and victim tried to intervene. The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival into oncoming traffic, then was later located and arrested.
