Registration for the C-U Triathlon is now open.
The race will begin on July 19 at 8 a.m. with a 400-yard swim, 10-mile bike ride and 5-kilometer run. While the inaugural triathlon was scheduled for last year, it was canceled, making this the first-ever C-U Triathlon.
Even if people are not racing, they can enjoy the event. Friends and family can participate in games, listen to music, play with inflatables and purchase food at the Stephens Family YMCA outdoor pavilion during the race. People can also sign up to volunteer with this form.
“We hope that even if people aren’t interested in doing the triathlon, (they) come out and support those who are competing,” said Morgan Pittman, the events and community engagement coordinator for Champaign Park District.
CPD and Stephens Family YMCA are sponsoring the race. According to the Stephens Family YMCA, the race is intended for athletes of all levels and provides a “motivating summer fitness goal.”
