Urbana mayor extends 10-guest restriction on social gatherings
September 28, 2020
Urbana Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin extended her city’s restriction on social gatherings to 10 people or fewer, not including the legal residents of the property, from Sept. 23 through Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m.
For these gatherings, face masks are required when social distancing isn’t possible among attendees.
Urbana’s restrictions on social gatherings began in August as tens of thousands of students moved into properties on and off campus.
Since then, dozens of “nuisance parties” have been reported and responded to by local police departments.
Punishment for hosting a noncompliant gathering may include a fine up to “$750 per violation per day,” according to the Emergency Order issued by Mayor Marlin.
