The Daily Illini COVID-19 updates for May 12: Seventh Champaign County death, nearly 30,000 tested in Illinois

Over 29,000 coronavirus tests were administered in Illinois in the last 24 hours. Illinois officials reported the highest single-day increase in coronavirus cases with 4,014 positive tests on Tuesday.
A woman in her 40s was the seventh person to die from COVID-19 in Champaign County, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced on Tuesday.
She was hospitalized for the virus and had underlying health conditions.
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced 10 more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Tuesday, pushing the countywide total to 308 cases.
Of the 308 cases, 146 are active, 155 have recovered and seven have died. Three people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Around 5.14% of Champaign County’s 5,989 tests have proved positive.

County health officials recommend anyone with symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue and loss of taste or smell — to get tested.
